Java Architect

Conversion Salary: $160K – $180K plus strong benefit package

Capstone IT is seeking a strategic and hands-on Java Architect to lead enterprise architecture initiatives within a large, complex environment. This role will focus on modernizing platforms, advancing event-driven architecture, and enabling scalable, secure solutions that align with long-term business objectives. This role is considered 70% strategic and 30% hands on.
This is a high-impact position requiring both technical depth and the ability to influence across teams, helping shape the future-state architecture while mentoring engineering talent.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, loosely coupled systems, driving the transition from monolithic to modern, distributed architectures.
- Partner with business and technology leaders to define architecture roadmaps, support modernization efforts, and align solutions with enterprise strategy.
- Establish and promote best practices for event-based systems, ensuring effective communication across platforms and domains.
- Drive proof-of-concept initiatives, evaluate emerging technologies, and lead design sessions to validate business and technical solutions.
- Define and enforce architecture standards related to security, compliance, performance, and responsible AI practices.
- Guide and develop engineers and architects, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and engineering excellence.
- Work closely with product, engineering, and external partners to deliver integrated, scalable, and observable solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience leading enterprise architecture initiatives (TOGAF certification preferred)
- Strong expertise in event-driven architecture and enterprise integration patterns
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing technical teams
Technical Skills
- Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred)
- Proficiency in Python, Java or .NET, and relational databases
- Strong experience with microservices, APIs, and event-based systems
- Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and SDLC best practices
- Experience with prototyping, experimentation, and solution validation
