Salary Range: $125K–$135K+ (Based on Experience)

Capstone IT is partnering with a leading insurance solutions provider to hire a Senior Data Engineer for a direct hire position based onsite in Omaha, NE. This role will be instrumental in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining ETL scripts that support data extraction, transformation, cleaning, and loading into operational data stores. The Senior Data Engineer will also mentor mid-level developers and serve as a technical lead for mid-sized data projects. This position requires expertise in SQL, Python, and ETL processes, with a strong focus on modernizing legacy systems and migrating from IBM DataStage to Python-based solutions.
The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintain strong communication with stakeholders, and drive best practices for data architecture and performance tuning. The ideal candidate should be highly adaptable, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a proactive, problem-solving mindset. This role offers the opportunity to lead modernization initiatives while guiding and mentoring a growing team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading into operational data stores.
- Lead the transition from IBM DataStage to Python-based ETL solutions, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Mentor and coach mid-level developers (3–5 years of experience), fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and technical teams to align data solutions with business objectives.
- Optimize SQL queries and database performance to ensure data integrity, reliability, and accessibility.
- Support cloud migration efforts and implement scripting-based automation using Python and UNIX/Linux.
- Serve as a technical lead for mid-sized data projects, coordinating resources, tracking progress, and meeting deadlines.
- Communicate status updates effectively to stakeholders, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of IT experience, including at least 6 years of progressive experience with relational database management systems.
- 6+ years of SQL experience (querying, optimization, data transformation).
- 4+ years of Python experience (scripting, automation, ETL development).
- 8+ years of experience using ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, IBM DataStage).
- Strong relational database knowledge, including a broad understanding of current and prospective data architecture and database performance tuning.
- Proven leadership skills with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
PREFERRED
- SQL programming experience in DB2 and SQL Server environments.
- Workday programming experience.
- Experience with Docker and Jenkins for CI/CD processes.
- Prior experience mentoring and coaching developers in a professional environment.
